The wheelman is similar in design to the dirt surfer, having only two wheels. However it is powered by a 43cc, 2 stroke engine. This enables s the rider to reach a top speed of around 32kmh, depending on weight. Throttle is controlled by squeezing a hand held pneumatic ball. The design is interesting in that spokeless wheels are used like foot straps and as a steering mechanism by angling the riders feet. Because the riders feet are inside the wheels and the motor is between them the machine has a low center of gravity which means it is stable. Like all other deviations of the skateboard the wheelman is a hybrid of other objects, in this instance a dirt surfer and a motorbike. Aesthetically I love the spokeless wheels and the way they are used to steer and connect the rider to the board. Thursday, September 2, 2010
